Advantage of DTF Textile Printing, Direct-To-Film Fabric Print & Press Process and Result Explained
At AM.CO.ZA we have just received the new DTF 600 Printer. In this video, we take a look at the new printer as well as the advantages of the Direct To Film printing process.
DTF (Direct-to-Fabric) textile printing is a relatively new printing technology that offers several advantages over traditional textile printing methods. Here are some of the advantages of DTF textile printing.
Versatility: DTF printing can be used on a wide range of textiles, including natural fabrics like cotton, silk, and linen, as well as synthetic fabrics such as polyester and nylon. This versatility allows for greater design possibilities and flexibility in choosing the appropriate fabric for a particular application.
Vibrant and High-Quality Prints: DTF printing produces vibrant and high-quality prints with excellent colour reproduction and fine details. The prints are sharp, durable, and have good wash fastness, ensuring that the colours remain vibrant even after multiple washes.
Direct Printing: Unlike traditional methods such as screen printing or heat transfer, DTF printing allows for direct printing on the fabric. The design is printed directly onto the textile without the need for additional steps like creating screens or transferring the image onto a carrier paper. This simplifies the process, reduces production time, and eliminates the need for additional materials.
Cost-Effectiveness: DTF printing can be a cost-effective solution for small to medium-scale production runs. It eliminates the need for expensive setup costs associated with screen printing, such as creating screens for each colour. Additionally, the reduced production time and increased efficiency of the process can result in cost savings.
Customization and Personalization: DTF printing enables easy customization and personalization of textiles. It allows for printing individual designs, patterns, or even photographs, making it ideal for producing unique and personalized garments, accessories, or home decor items.
Eco-Friendly: DTF printing typically uses water-based inks, which are more environmentally friendly compared to traditional solvent-based inks. Water-based inks have lower levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and are less harmful to both human health and the environment.
Greater Design Freedom: With DTF printing, there are no limitations on the complexity or size of the design. It supports full-colour prints and intricate details, enabling designers to unleash their creativity and achieve their desired visual effects.
With the new DTF 600 Printer, you can do full-colour prints on light to dark garments and
apparel, on various fabrics, such as cotton
polyester and cotton-poly blends.
The process is quick and easy, and delivers excellent results, but how does it work?
The artwork is printed directly onto the film using DTF ink, and then white ink is printed over the artwork. The film then goes through the shaker which applies powder evenly over the white ink. The excess powder is then shaken off. From there, the film is placed into the oven so that the print can be baked onto the film. This film is now ready for heat press application onto the fabric.
You can make use of any type of heat press, and we recommend the AM.CO.ZA Heatware range. There are loads of heat presses to choose from. If you need a heat press for big or small jobs, we have one for you! Now you simply place the film onto your material and use your chosen heat press to press the film onto the material.
The quality looks great, and even after stretching the material, you can see the print is applied in such a manner that it won't peel off.
You have the choice of a 600mm wide bed or a 300mm wide bed, which is a desktop option. You have the option to purchase the printer and the shaker separately if you so wish.
When doing DTF Printing, you are going to need DTF Inks, Films and Powders, which AM.CO.ZA stocks and sells via the Buythis.co.za website. The powder is available in black, white, fine, superfine and coarse. We also have a wide range of colours and film options available.
